New scientific publications

Two recent articles have highlighted the role of NALCN in other neurologic diseases:

  1. In a Parkinson's disease mouse model, downregulation of NALCN was found to contribute to pathological bursting activity in the pacemaking activity of neurons in the substantia nigra pars compacta of the basal ganglia. This suggests a role of decreased NALCN in Parkinson's disease, and the possibility that modulating NALCN could be treatment target for motor symptoms of Parkinson's disease.
  2. In a study evaluating the biology of chronic pain, NALCN was found to contribute to the resting membrane potential and firing of neurons involved in chronic pain pathways.
